Science Park Skövde: A new feasibility study will lay the foundation for the robust communication solutions of the future
Together with technology companies [including Forsway], public actors and future users, Science Park Skövde is investigating the possibility of establishing a testbed where robust communication solutions, based on Swedish and European technology and methodology, can be developed, tested and verified in realistic scenarios.
“The need for secure and resilient communication solutions is increasing as the security situation in the world around us changes, increased climate-related disruptions and new demands on socially important activities,” says Ingi Jonasson, CEO of Science Park Skövde.
In the long term, the goal is for the testbed to contribute to increased innovation and strengthened preparedness by giving companies, the public sector and academia the opportunity to develop and test the resilient communication solutions of the future.
What makes the venture extra interesting is how it began.
“The idea for the project was born during a lunch where representatives from Science Park Skövde and some of the park’s companies met. It is a clear example of the power that exists in the park environment – how meetings between people with different skills create the conditions for collaboration, co-creation and innovations that can make a real difference and meet critical societal needs,” says Ingi Jonasson.
The feasibility study will run in 2026 and is partly financed by Västra Götalandsregionen, Skövde kommun and Science Park Skövde.
“Forsway is very much looking forward to participating in this initiative from Science Park Skövde, say Tobias Forsell, CEO at Forsway. In the lab, we have already started implementing parts of our new platform Xtend 5G that Forsway is now developing with the help of a multi-million EUR development funding from ESA.”
“The testbed will be a perfect tool to test and demonstrate Xtend 5G’s powerful capabilities to connect a large number of transmission technologies based on satellite, fiber, mobile and radio solutions for both civil and defense-related use.”
